Oftentimes, these innovations are considered to be a driver of healthcare costs. Evidence presented today by the European Health Technology Institute for Socio-Economic Research (EHTI) shows that medical technology can be the key to cost-efficiency in healthcare and to improving patients' health outcomes.

Milan, Italy 20 April 2009 - The European Health Technology Institute for Socio-Economic Research (EHTI) today presents at a high level workshop at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. The workshop brings together leading European and Italian experts to exchange views on the role and implementation of health technology assessment (HTA) in Italy and across Europe and takes place just a few days before the European Parliament's plenary session vote on 23 April on the Directive on the Application of Patients' Rights in Cross-Border Healthcare. In Article 17 of the Directive, the European Commission aims to establish a framework for European cooperation in HTA.

Berlin, 23. Januar 2009. Die schrittweise Einführung von Innovationen der Medizintechnologie mit einer Erstattung und Evaluation an ausgewählten Zentren kann aus Sicht des BVMed ein sinnvoller Weg sein, um frühzeitiger zu einer Aufnahme von innovativen Medizinprodukten in den GKV-Leistungskatalog zu kommen. „Ein solches Verfahren muss aber zeitlich befristet sein und in kurzer Zeit möglichst sachgerechte Erkenntnisse liefern, um das Kosten-Nutzen-Verhältnis von MedTech-Innovationen nachzuweisen", so BVMed-Geschäftsführer und Vorstandsmitglied Joachim M. Schmitt.

Januar 2009 in Berlin durchführen werden. Dabei geht es um Stand und Perspektive der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wissenschaft, Industrie und politischen Entscheidern bei der Einführung des medizintechnischen Fortschritts in den deutschen Gesundheitsmarkt.
